Due to various mundane existing plans, we decided to do a nice Valentines dinner tonight, rather than tomorrow night. Ed made beef burgundy, which he actually cooked last night since it's better if you make it a day ahead. (Frustrating, though, because I could smell it for hours after it had been cooked, but couldn't have any.) He came home this evening with a nice loaf of French bread, put the stew on to reheat, and spent some time (I thought) getting the brussels sprouts ready to steam. He seemed a little jumpy whenever someone came too close to the kitchen, so I stayed out of his way.
The reason for the twitchiness turned out to be the surprise appetizer: escargots in garlic sauce on hot sliced baguette.
Kiera didn't like it -- I think she found the garlic sauce a little strong, and distrusted the snails even after I rinsed the sauce off. Molly also objected to the garlic, but liked the snails. Since Kiera didn't want hers, Molly ate them for her.
