Socks and Shoes

January 31st, 2005 (11:40 pm)

New vocabulary:

* Sock
* Shoe
* Cookie

New trick:

Brings over book, then turns around so that her back is to you, so that she can be easily lifted into your lap.

Latest tantrum:

At bedtime, she wanted to wear shoes and socks to bed. Socks were no problem. As for shoes, we offered her soft-soled shoes, but she wasn't interested. She wanted to wear her blue sneakers with the velcro. I wouldn't particularly mind her wearing shoes to bed if it weren't for the fact that she comes in to bed with us at some point and spends the rest of the night kicking me. It's annoying enough being kicked when she's not wearing shoes, so I told her no. She protested this bitterly but settled down when it became clear we weren't budging.

As she was getting ready to go to sleep, she asked for a doggie. We own some absurd number of stuffed dogs, but naturally, none were handy. I offered her a stuffed frog instead; this was angrily thrown to the floor. Of course, that's what she did with the two stuffed dogs I offered her the last time she asked for a doggie while going down to bed or for a nap. She wanted one of the others, I think. They're all "doggies," though, including the stuffed panda she slept with last night. I wish she'd settle on a favorite, so that I'd know which one she wanted.

Molly's new trick is to lobby for play-dates. She lobbies me, though; she hasn't yet figured out the trick of inviting the friend directly, and then coming to me and saying, "Rose's mom says it's okay for Rose to come over if you say yes..."
